beer, me?

Image
Recently I had a wee sip of Innis & Gunn along side some Memphis ribs, it was fantastic! I even think grand ol' Dad would approve. The packaging is tasty and a Canada Day special brew...LCBO here I come!

The softer side of New York

Image
Now that I am getting cozy in my new home in the world of yummy treats, I have been lucky to spend some time with very sweet elves at the CHOBANI SOHO Cafe. They have been working away making installations and hanging holiday greetings. The vibe in and around that Cafe is so wonderful as well. The street corner has been transformed to a nice meeting spot for friendly neighbors and visitors alike. Being the girl in the red coat who gets to bike over and check on all things sweet and delicious has been great fun!

breakfast

Image
In prep for 2013 I am compiling some thoughts about additions to my daily life. One of the daily tweaks is how I eat breakfast. I have beautiful teacups my Mum put aside for me a few years back that will compliment a little 'dining at my desk kit' to encourage a morning routine that is cozy and unique to my tastes and favorite morning treats.

flirting with water

This winning design looks super cool. Traversing over the Seine in style it seems!

Italian expectations

Image
I have been lucky enough to be asked to participate in an evening of food, wine and general shenanigans....I will post more when the project is complete, however I am all giddy with anticipation.

Swedish cookbook

I came across this today, I love the cover art and title. It was posted Emi by a witty writer, who I thank for the translation to english!

welcome winter

Image
It's snowing today! After this past crazy week for New Yorker's it seems like the autumn transition is leaning toward the wintery side. I can't say I am sad about that really. I love the seasons, but living in mainly in Canada and Northern Europe I learned to adapt to snowy times, in a variety of ways. Here are some snaps from my former west village home during the full fall swing. I look forward to returning to certain haunts through all the seasons, especially on a cold snowy winters night. Buvette , I am looking at you!

not even the rain has such small hands

If I were to take on this challenge I would choose the e.e. cummings poem that has been with me in days filled with Montreal music, to cozy Toronto evenings all the way to cold and rainy Danish days of longing and uncertainty. The poem seems to follow me, gently and softly a few steps behind, calming me, reassuring me of the strength and stability that is enclosed not from some outside source, but rather found within.  Thanks Joanna for these great challenges! somewhere i have never travelled, gladly beyond any experience, your eyes have their silence: in your most frail gesture are things which enclose me, or which i cannot touch because they are too near your slightest look easily will unclose me though i have closed myself as fingers, you open always petal by petal myself as Spring opens (touching skilfully, mysteriously)her first rose or if your wish be to close me, i and my life will shut very beautifully ,suddenly, as when the heart of this ...

clean lines

Image
When well designed objects come across my way, I get very geeky. It's no surprise that Another Country has collaborated with Monocle and no surprise I find their beautiful lines so luxurious.

sweet notions

Witty branding by local restaurant  Jack's wife Frieda . I want to check them out very soon!

cool factor

For no other reason than coolness. Also, a design resource called September Industry that has some elegant and fantastic work.

New York biking

Image
Although it can be dangerous and tricky at times, there are few things I love more than biking around town. This new campaign is well done and sweet, from the talented shop Mother ...of course.

well said.

August lunch

Image
Today's lunch was a lobster roll by the river. With Autumn whispering to New York it's on the way, I am taking this time to give one last kiss to summer.

Pretty vacant...

Image
Her nuanced expression is one of many possibilities. I am projecting of course, so I imagine the scene being one of excitement and allure. The moment in an evening, when it hits you — you don't want to be anywhere other than exactly that spot your feet are swaying in. I have experienced this enough times to recall it with ease, for this I am thankful. Not to mention I love that damn dress!

Biking

Image
Some Sweet illustrations from this year's tour. My new bike has ten whole gears! I shall be riding like the wind this summer in the city.

Friday Inspiration

"We’re at a unique point in history. Where what once required many people spending many years and many millions can now be done by a small group of inspired people from a dorm room, or in my case, a bedroom closet. Ideas can be proven before they need to be committed to. The revolutions of our generation — in business, education, social structure and even politics — are not being catalyzed by generals or politicians, but by highly empowered individuals like yourselves — the wizards of our time so speak — who can see with clarity how the assumptions of previous generations no longer apply. And the revolutions often grow out of nothing more than an intense hobby, an inspired attempt of seeing if things can be rethought a little better." Excerpt from a speech Salman Khan, who created the  Khan Academy  a  fantastic site for learning and an interesting model of where the future can take us.

New York Summer!

Image
HipHip for all things grand in the city that never sleeps. En route to work, I was lucky recipient of my first biking high-five! My giggling did not stop for quite some time, thank you kind stranger! This is what I foresee in the next while for summer in this fair city, bring on the heat and bring on the color, summer is definitely here.

Taking a new view

Image
Rose colored glasses pale in comparison to this interesting take on Instagram. Imagine seeing the world through the vintage lens, this would take instant nostalgia to a whole new level.

Impossible Conversations

Image
The Prada Schiaparelli show on at the Met at the moment is wonderful. If you are in New York, I urge you to check it out! The curation, the smell of the Met's cool corners on a hot summer day make it a great place to beat the heat and be inspired. After taking in the sights and sounds in the museum, head upstairs to the rooftop garden, the sculpture will knock your socks off. A metal cloud in the sky is simply breathtakingly beautiful.

beautiful

On my list of things I would like to one day have. So stylish!

Canada Day!

Image
Sunday's celebration will involve a sunny spot, a moment to remember my years in that country and a sweet kiss blown over to all my people still in the land of maple syrup . If I had a bike, perhaps this would be a great addition for traveling to parties in style! Hope to be back in the saddle soon!

Intelligent Space

Image
For the past two years I have been eliminating the amount of unnecessary items in my life. Lately I have been taking a new view to this concept, however the main goal has stayed the same. I surround myself with useful, enjoyable and beautiful necessities. Living in furnished flats has allowed me this luxury and it opened my eyes to keeping only the bare essentials. Everything I own fits into one large suitcase and a carry-on. It seems a little drastic, but living in New York has made this way of life pleasurable and possible.  Taking this nomadic approach a step further, the m-ch, or the Micro Compact Home condenses living space to a 2.66 metre cube. Love this idea!

Waterworks

Image
For the last year I have been working with Mucca on directing the Waterworks brand. Here are some favorite shots from my latest shoot. Working with the very talented stylist Christine Rudolph and Gentyl & Hyers was a treat as always.
