2009

Image
It has gone by in the blink of an eye. It has been sweet, spicy, surprising and shocking all at once. I keep my fingers crossed that 2010 will move a tiny bit slower to allow me to enjoy all the wonderful things that seem to zoom past at warp speed sometimes. I only have one errand to sort out today, so if my last afternoon of 2009 were to look like something it would be these images. Vintage shopping, sweet tooth indulgence and pinky goodness. Thanks 2009 and all the faces and places I have seen in it and here is 2010....may you be as beautifully balanced as you sound.

boys

Image
They are pretty rad, at times. If I were one I would want all these things ( with the exception of the jacket...not digging that ) Being a very girly girl, sometimes a little masculinity can be a good thing.

Thanks to all these wonderful artists out there that are embracing this UN conference and breathing so much hope into the 'hagen. I don't think the Danes know what an honor it is to have their capital nicked named in this way...sometimes I just want to give the world a hug, today is one of those days. Max Dalton's illustrations are so cool. Thanks Max!

too cute for words

love this photographer. love!

mtachy matchy

Image
Many years ago when asking a wee one what her mother did, she responded with "she matches me"- hilarious. It always drove me round the bend as a child when my mother matched red shorts and a pink t-shirt on my little aggravated body. Now, here I sit in purple tights, red sweater and orange trimmed ballet flats...who would have guessed. One of favorite matchy games is food+film. This is a passing idea on a foggy Wednesday afternoon in December. However to remember this idea, I am jotting it down to remind myself to follow up on this little project I have had rolling around in my mind for too long. food+drink+film = happy. This little red lipped hottie has the some thoughts, trés cool.

old technology

Image
New technology rocks, seriously rocks. However, I can't seem to stop myself indulging in my love of older things, it is so clichĂ©...but this is just how it is. Holga, SLR camera's, typewriters, vintage clothes and accessories, crooner tunes – something with a story and a bit of soul always pulls me in. Finding old photos that existed pre-facebook will be a winter activity for me, while in Canada. I can close my eyes and conjour up the specific smell of the air on the coast on Newfoundland, looking out to Britian and my very unclear future, at that 25 year old time and finding that photo, along with others that stick out in my mind will be one of the best christmas presents this year. Ah....nostalgia, whether it be instant or proper is as guilty a pleasure of mine as nibling on chocolate whilst sipping champagne. Embracing the past is important when looking to the future...that's what I tell myself anyway.

do you realize?

Image
I am not going to write down the lyrics, they are cheesy and too light to say what I am feeling, but this year I will miss all the people that would have been swaying their arms with me to welcome yet another year on this earth.

trés chic

This pin is adorable. Apparently the first lady of France will make her acting debut in his next film. Soooo cozy!

food

Image
I am not a great cook, nor do I aspire to be. I do however aspire to be a wonderful consumer of the good stuff. The way in which we engage with food has always interested me. Whether it was my first experience with southern fried chicken in the deep south, fresh eggs retreived in the morning to make cookies in the afternoon, maple syrup made simmering in the forest, to my first lobster dinner and creme brulee - the way we cook, eat and source food has always been high on my list of things I enjoy. I have heard the phrase "that takes me back" used to describe how the smell and taste of a certain thing can transport us back in time. Nostalgic, yes, but powerful none-the-less. Coming upon this article that described "the animal and intellectual desires that drive our cravings and food preferences." made me stop. An exhibit in Paris during fashion week called Through the Looking Glass. Drink Me! Eat Me! sounded like such an amazing idea. It combines food, art and what ...

I need to find where I can get the Sunday Times here in the 'hagen. My aim for this Sunday morn is homemade breakie, the Times, yoga and tea. Keeping things simple just may make this plan a reality...we shall see. Times covers.... beautiful.

I love this site !

Langres cheese

Image
I have yet to try this, but the tradition of pouring champagne over the top of this cheese makes me say - yes please! It sounds strong, I am not sure if I will be able to handle it, but never the less, it is worth a try. More time at the gym and yoga is in the cards so I can indulge in these simple pleasures! Welcome winter and thirty-one soon.

eye candy

Some visually stunning garments and objects I am digging today. Combined these things would make a very pretty winter party scene.

yummm

Taking great pleasure in the small things in life is important. This recipe is beyond indulgent, and looks so delicious.

Thanks Grandpa Owen and Thomas for your efforts. I remember you and will think of you both today.

pretty bag

Image
This would make a cute Christmas present, I think. The plan for this year's Christmas celebration is to go present shopping in storage units! Big comfy bathrobes, stemless wine glasses and salad spinners....I am coming to get you!

is the number of days since I was born...suddenly I feel so behind! So, to keep things simple, I am off to look for winter digs and then check out a neat bubble exhibit at the Museum for Kunst. It is an overcast Sunday, but having kicked my headache and caught up on sleep, these flowers seem very appropriate.

So long September and hello full on Autumn. I have lost my hat, my sunnies and my mind at times. I will replace the lost items and look for my mind, it must be around here somewhere. This hat + sunny combo is pretty rad I think.

lost sunnies

Image
I have officially lost my favorite pair of Tom Ford sunglasses. I bought them at Spectacle in Toronto on my way out of town in June '08 - they went on many travels with me and treated me very well. Hopefully I will find a pair that I can look out through to all the new adventures that are to lay ahead of me in twenty-ten.

yes please.

This living room is location neutral to me, it could be London, Paris, NYC or even in Scandiland...no matter - I would love to be sitting cuddled into the corner of the plush velvet sofa on a rainy night like this - yummmm

balloons...

I thought they had their day in the sun, and it was time to move on. However, these photographs changed my mind. Great work

perhaps the best album

Image
It is the 40th anniversary of Abbey Road and it is such a great album to listen to all the way through. That album was my childhood, my preadolescence, my adolescence, is my adulthood and hopefully will be my old age. Sun King just might be the most relaxing song on earth, especially when the sun is shining at 4pm on an autumn day here in Scandinavia.

thanksgiving

Image
It being thanksgiving weekend in Canada, I have been giving little thanks in my mind to various people the past few days. Thank you for making me laugh when I wanted to cry. Thank you for not letting me off the hook, when I wanted to take the easy way out and believing in me. Thank you for being my friend. Thank you for all the apple pies. Thank you for the plane trips, for lying about it being your birthday to have more red wine. Thank you for coming by my house to 'smoke me out' as you called it. Thank you for making me music play lists. Thank you for calling me something sweet when you leave messages on my voice mail. Thank you for giving me nicknames. Thank you for Kenny&Dolly on vinyl. Thank you for teaching me how to drive. Thank you for my unruly hair. Thank you for Christmas gifts given in cars. Thank you for inspiring me. Thank you for meeting me on the spur of the moment. Thank you for introducing me to flavors I had not tried or thought I did not like. Thank you ...

dark skies mean film time!

Image
This month is Grace Kelly month at the Film Institute here in Copenhagen - how lucky am I and how much does that make me smile.... Carey Grant and her on the big screen, yes. yes. and yes.

food for thought

Image
After the most surreal evening I have spent in a very long time, I have come away with a few feelings. One, is the importance of taking moments to pause and remember people that have touched me and made my life better. I took time today to go see a church I had been meaning to see for quite sometime, but put off for some reason or another. After trekking up to it, I was in awe - serious awe. It was a very frightening feeling, to be all alone standing in front of such an intimidating structure, on a dark cool autumn night. All the doors were closed and the church was obviously not open, but feeling a need to go further I found my way in and was rewarded for doing so. I had the honor of seeing inside such a beautiful building all alone, in complete silence, with only one candle leading me to explore the shadows. It gave me time to say goodbye to a dear friend and pause to think about my very small part in this very big world. I left the church with three candles burning and to the sounds...

head over heels

A fanatic is one who can't change his mind and won't change the subject. - true and well said Churchill. I am not a fanatic, as I change my mind, and being a woman tend do this very often....changing subjects is also a favorite pastime of mine, so...fanatic - nope. Intrigue, now that I can be very much filled with, often and hopefully for a very long time. I am intrigued with this new band... A Fine Frenzy . They are a little cutesy, baking in the sunlight kind of way, but the music + red haired beauty package, has me wide eyed. Red hair, I never thought I would go down that road....but maybe Scandiland is bringing out my inner ginger.

MONA & HOLLY

Image
Stumbled across the creative peeps at Avroko doing a kick ass clothing line. A glamorously feminine style, that pays homage to 'always proper and buttoned-up ladies' - gorgeous! If I had to start my wardrobe all over again with just a few pieces...I could survive on these babies.

life in 3D

Image
Watching this uber cute animated flick could make even the most gray Danish day sweet. Not only was the movie, short, sweet and technically amazing...the 3D glasses I got to sport while watching it were beyond cool. They looked like W Allen's famous black rimmed pair....I loved them! I have them at my desk now and will eagerly await an excuse to wear them again. The sun actually came out today...however I am not going to brave the cool waters edge for a run...indoor gym+sauna activity is more realistic I think. I heard the other day 'I am happy to be an adult' I agree, although I don't always feel that way (or really want to either). Sometimes nibling on cookies for dinner, ordering another glass of wine just because it is raining outside or sporting wellies is the smart move....and doing those things does not make me feel like an adult...quite the oppostie actually.

so beyond cool.

Image
This fellow is the picture of Italian style. To me he looks like someone who could teach me how to make amazing pasta and match it with really great wine while he weaved long tales...

Doll, Sparky or Glow

Image
This is the perfect image today for so many reasons....

no such thing as useless beauty

Image
On this very cool Sunday afternoon, my heart is low and I can only be described as delicate, a term which I shall never hear again in the same way. Sparky is another one that I will miss. I will try and keep being sparky, whatever that actually means...

sitting pretty

Image
how cool would this chair be to sit in? Especially if your feet could not touch the ground. Neat-o Victoria Fang !

downtown

Image
Some great shots of the old stomping ground. OCAD, you look so pretty and colorful!

and how!

I will give this show another go. Sometimes things can be too stylish, is that possible? So perhaps a Vodka gimlet would help ease the pain? the mind reels.....

logarithm..never heard that one before

Image
These experimental book covers for a new line of POD Faber & Faber books by Michael Kosmicki are inspired by the phenomena of a visual glitch, the design utilizes a logarithm (an original script by Ted Davis) that translates the title and section into a distinct graphic pattern. I had never heard of this script before, but the outcome is beautiful.
